Emily Jane. Tattoo for Alana. 2021. Digital Print.

Emily Jane & the late Alana Bowden

Emily Jane contacted us directly to let us know that Alana Bowden very sadly passed away before making her final submission to the ‘Scarlet Women’ project. Emily had been working on a tattoo for Alana of the ‘Scarlet Woman’ of Revelations and felt that this would be a fitting tribute to Alana to show this piece within this project and we are honoured to include it.

Nikki Marrone. ‘Petition me Again’. Digital Still

Marrone, Nikki

‘Petition Me Again’ ’
Film & Poem ‘Petition me Again’.

Petition Me Again, I Dare You
Talk about my womb again and how you want to put a baby in it.
Casual.
Split my body open and make a house a home,
A safe place for you to sow your desires.
Your fetish.

Spill to me your fantasies of draped dresses,
Barefoot and beaming,
Soft waves of hair, swaying with the hanging trees.
A coy smile winking over shoulder,
As you cradle my tumescent belly.
Protector.

Talk about my temple of a body.
Giving and giving and giving,
Until the harvest leaves me barren.
Like what you say isn’t a reaping.
You don’t realize that the womb -
Is a lost constellation,
And that you are no white knight.
That the movement of mountains is more gentle -
Than the swelling of breasts
Or the hollow bones bending and breaking.
Pressure.
Perhaps you should know,
Venus was once soft Spring days,
Before the summer scorched.
That even the goddesses of old lived like this.
Giving and giving and giving,
While the Gods took for their desire.
My body is no temple -
With bricks that crumble,
And an altar for you to desecrate.
I am the forest.
Thick canopies of maple trees.
Sweet scented wildflowers creeping in the underwood.
I will grow back.
No matter how badly I am devastated.
And that I have risen from the ashes -
Of all the women who come before me.
So be careful where you worship boy.
There is no abdication,
Once a Goddess you invoke.
A bell rung -
Cannot be undone.

Stephen Pope. ‘The Island of Patmos’. Digital Print

Pope, Stephen

Exhibiting artist and Panelist
Liberating the Spirit of the Hebrew teachings on Creation, Creativity and the Sacred Feminine.
Stephen Pope comes from the tradition of Kabbalah which is non- religious. He brings out the essence of these ancient teachings simply and directly, and presents fresh translations of biblical texts that liberate them from the distortions caused by centuries of patriarchal mistranslation, misogyny and hierarchical thinking.

“I present the essence of the teachings as simply and directly as possible. They are so needed now, at this point of acute crisis in human evolution, because they contain the truth of who we really are, as human beings, and they illuminate our relationship with our follow creatures and the planet, the solar system and the entire cosmos.”

Text : Translation of the ‘Song of Songs’’

Quintessence of all essences
Song of all songs
The song of the Feminine”

Brief excerpt below :

Deeper Midrash
ASHERAH

This is the Song of all who sing the Divine Fire of Eternal Peace Into existence.

The Fire of your Breath resonates the Seeding flame of the Heart You are bringer of eternal Peace.

This seed of the Divine Fire is given
To nurture
As the One Spirit of Life nurtures all things.

The flame of my heart animates the Spirit of the Breath of Life That kindles the unfolding of the World.

I AM - Breath of the One - Eternal Breath
That Draws the tides of the Great Spiritual Sea into and out of the World.

Listen (Shema) with all of your being Hear within profound inner silence The Peace of ASHERAH

Penny Slinger. Printed Panel of images from the ‘Reclaiming Scarlet’ series. 2016 - 2021

Slinger, Penny

Exhibiting artist and Panelist

”I see this series also as a publication which would present the image series and writings as a cohesive portfolio in a red silk cover. This would provide a lasting venue for this series in its entirety. There could be a limited edition hand crafted version and a regular publication. Scarlet is putting herself out there, particularly for women, in a candid way. She is using the tools of the digital age, employing social media, as is associated with the 'Fourth wave' of feminism. She is unafraid to show her weaknesses, as well as laud her strengths. This work seeks to both identify and transform the current state of feminism as reflected in the arts.
This new feminism is body based, spiritual and secular all at once.
I have tried to avoid outer politics, for I believe in the politics of experience, the inner journey of the self which then radiates out to touch everything in our lives. We start there.
My artistic roots are in my own brand of Feminist Surrealism. In this work I have returned to those roots to re-invent them in the culture of now. To see where the Feminist movement has evolved and to make my statements in this fertile ground as a radical arena. Attaching words to the images helps give scope to the way they are comprehended. Not to explain the images, they must speak with their own mouths, but to encourage a dialogue, to contextualize the graphic creations in a cultural milieu. To encourage the provocation, rather than titillation… To have these as counterpoint to the art, creating a dialog from the inside out.”
